Our Ottawa projects include single rooms or whole homes. We've done home library walls, home office storage, window seats, mudroom lockers, and media centers. We also build custom furniture like dining tables and coffee tables if you're really looking to make a warm space in your home.

Custom Woodwork Design Process Starts With Your Vision

If you can think of it, we've built it. You get to download your vision and from there we'll discuss style, function, wood types, and finish colors. We can provide drawings that show how pieces will look so you can approve the design before we start building.

Wood Selection

Hardwoods like oak, maple, and cherry are the most durable, they resist warping, handle moisture¹, and just get better with age. Oak's open grain takes stain easily, while maple and cherry have tight grain that are great for super smooth surfaces.

For trim and paint-grade projects we use spruce, pine or MDF. No matter what we want, we'll make sure to match and compliment your existing woodwork. We'll talk about natural wood durability, patterns, and color differences when choosing materials.

Refinishing for Generations of Use

If you have older features in your home that need some love we'd love to help. Solid wood millwork and feature pieces last for decades with proper care. Scratches, wear marks, and colour change add character, and can usually be sanded and refinished without replacing the piece.

Heritage home projects often include restoring original woodwork and these are jobs we love. Wood is such a beautiful and flexible material that old pieces can be remodeled and reinvented preserving their legacy.

Choosing a Woodworker

Red Seal certification is Canada's formal carpentry designation, but encompasses a fairly broad set of woodworking skills. Most carpenters have a focus or something they truly love. At KVC we love trim and cabinetry, as well as one off wood pieces. Woodworking is more than a job, it's a passion and we look forward to sharing it with you.
